The Merlion is not a real animal; it is a fictional creature with a fish body and a lion head.
It was designed by Singaporean Chinese Lim Nang Seng as a tourism symbol, and it is a famous fountain sculpture in downtown Singapore, also serving as a city landmark, in use since 1997.
