Fenghuang

The Fenghuang Ancient Town, a small county town located in the western part of Hunan province. Fenghuang means ‘Phoenix’ in Chinese, the mythical bird of good omen and longevity that is consumed by fire to be re-born again from the flames. Therefore, Fenghuang Ancient Town is also known as Phoenix Ancient Town, which is a famous scenic attraction in China because of the well-known Chinese novel "Border Town" written by Shen Congwen.

The Town is very small with only a main street; however, it is a green corridor and charming place since it is located on the riverbank of Tuojiang River. There are well-preserved ancient residential buildings with the history over 200 years, ancient lanes and alleys, as well as ancient town walls in the Fenghuang Ancient Town. Besides, the town harbors many unique ethnic languages, customs and folk arts.
