Situated on Xiaozhai East Road on the northwest side of Giant Wild GoosePagoda, the Shaanxi History Museum is the first modern national museum. Itwas built in 1983 and opened to the public in 1991. Shaanxi History Museumcovers 65,000 square meters, of which 11,000 square meters belong to theexhibition halls and 8,000 square meters (about 2 acres) are used aswarehouses for storing relics, houses over 300,000 items including murals,paintings, pottery, coins, as well as bronze, gold, and silver objects.TheShaanxi History Museum in Xi'an, regarded as 'the pearl of ancient dynastiesand house of Chinese treasures', gives a miniature overview of the thousandsof years of Chinese history and the splendid ancient cultures of olden times.Chinese summer vacation is from July to August so the tourists are suggestedto avoid visiting the museum during this period because of the crowdedness.Normally, 2-3 hours should be prepared to explore this museum.
