Turpan City is located in the central part of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It covers an area of 69,713 square kilometers with the total population of 637 thousand.

It is the home of a number of ethnic groups including Uygur, Hui, Kazakh, Russian, Manchu, Zhuang, Miao etc. Because Turpan is rich in high-quality grapes of many kinds, it is known as the hometown of grapes. Grapes have even proved to be an attraction. Lying to the northeast of the city, Grape Valley is a peaceful heaven and a welcoming place for visitors. Flaming Mountain is another famous attraction of Turpan which is the hottest place in China, the surface temperature here can reach over 70℃.
