Classification:

Xiamen, located at the southeastern tip of Fujian Province, is bordered by Zhangzhou to the west, Nan'an and Jinjiang to the north, and faces the small and large Kinmen Islands and Dadeng Island across the sea to the southeast. It covers a total area of 2,089 square kilometers and has a population of 4.11 million. It is an important central city, port, and scenic tourist city along the southeastern coast. It has also become a demonstration zone for cooperation in emerging industries and modern services across the Taiwan Strait, an international shipping center in Southeast Asia, a regional financial service center across the Taiwan Strait, and a trade center across the Taiwan Strait. Legend has it that in ancient times, this place was a habitat for egrets, hence it is also called Egret Island. During the Qing Dynasty, Zheng Chenggong stationed troops in Xiamen. In 1949, it became a municipality under Fujian Province. It is now part of the free trade pilot zone. Today's Xiamen is gradually becoming a modern international port city known for its scenic tourism, boasting a World Cultural Heritage site and the first batch of national 5A-level tourist attractions—Gulangyu.
