The meaning of the Tibetan language is "beautiful sandbar." It is located in Deqin County, Diqing Prefecture, Yunnan Province, at the foot of the Baima Snow Mountain, on the west bank of the Jinsha River, facing Shangri-La County and Derong County in Sichuan Province across the river. National Highway 214 runs through it, making it a must-pass route of the "Tea Horse Road," with a unique geographical location. Above Benzilan, the Jinsha River rushes with roaring waves, while the next section of the river opens up, and the water becomes calm. Benzilan is a typical example of the climate diversity in the "Three Parallel Rivers" World Natural Heritage area. Although it is only about 110 kilometers in a straight line from the Longjiang River, which has an annual rainfall of 4600 millimeters, the annual rainfall here is only 374 millimeters, representing a typical dry and hot river valley climate. Experts visiting the World Natural Heritage site have stated that the significant difference in rainfall over such a short distance is a marvel of the world!
