Wuyuan County, now under the jurisdiction of Shangrao City in Jiangxi Province, is one of the six counties of the ancient Huizhou. It is located in the northeast of Jiangxi, bordering the provinces of Anhui and Zhejiang, with a land area of 2,967 square kilometers and a population of 360,000. Wuyuan is adjacent to the national historical and cultural city of Quzhou to the east, the porcelain capital Jingdezhen to the west, the national-level tourist destination Huangshan and the ancient Huizhou government, and the national historical and cultural city of She County to the north, while it connects to the first fairy mountain of Jiangnan, Sanqing Mountain, and the copper capital Dexing City to the south. This area boasts well-preserved traditional villages and pristine ecological landscapes. At least 50 ancient villages have remained almost unchanged over the past century. It is renowned not only for its natural scenery—particularly the rapeseed flower landscapes—but also for its glorious past. This remote county is the hometown of some of China's top scholars, including the Confucian master Zhu Xi of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279) and China's first railway engineer, Zhan Tianyou.
