The Kalakuli Lake

The Kalakuli Lake is located 196 kilometers from Kashgar, near the junction of the Pamir, Tian Shan and Kunlun mountain ranges. It covers about 10,000 square meters and the depth is about 30 meters. The 3,600 m altitude makes it the highest lake of the Pamir plateau. The color of the lake changes frequently. Every dawn in the morning, the lake is like a green mirror; as soon as the sun rises, with the shinning sunlight, the lake begin to fluctuate, the color ranges from light blue to pale yellow, and sometimes to pink red, which make the tourists feel like being in a fairyland. Its unique charm and the crystal reflection in the water attract many travelers from home and abroad. Usually, people would like to go to Kalakuli Lake in Spring and Summer for taking pictures, but in fact there is a different nice view here in Winter season.
