Jiayuguan Pass
Jiayuguan is a pass standing at the western end of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall. It is located 5 kilometres west of Jiayuguan City, which is the most spectacular Guancheng along the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty. Because of the dangerous terrain and magnificent architecture, it is known as "the first grand pass in the world". Different from the well-known sections built with stones or bricks, Jiayuguan Great Wall was built with rammed earth, making yellow its dominant hue and helping the pass blend harmoniously with the surrounding desert. The city where the pass is located is named after the pass, also called Jiayuguan, sitting in China’s northwest Gansu Province. The inner city is 9 metres high and 640 metres in circumstance covering 2, 500 square meters. Jiayuguan Pass is a huge building, the grate tower has many stories and hanging cornices, grand and magnificent. The sunset here is very beautiful, the old pass looks magnificent with the scarlet sunlight slanting across the land. It takes about 2-3 hours to finish the whole trip.
