The Yulin Grottoes
The Yulin Grottoes, also known as Ten Thousand Buddha Gorge, Yulin Temple and Shangdong Zi, are located 70 kilometers south of Guazhou County (formerly Anxi County), Gansu Province, under the jurisdiction of the Dunhuang Academy. Cave excavated in the Yulin River Canyon on both sides of the upright things on the cliff, because the banks of the elm forest named. Yulin Grottoes were built in the Northern Wei Dynasty before the Sui and Tang Dynasties, which can be inferred from the cave form and related inscriptions. From the fresco style and visitors inscription, the title of the Tang, the Five Dynasties, Song, Western Xia, Yuan and Qing dynasties have been excavated and painted, large-scale construction. There are 43 grottoes in Yulin Grottoes, with a distribution area of 112,850 square meters, and the total area of murals is 4,200 square meters. Among the caves, there are 3 caves in the Tang Dynasty, 8 caves in the Five Dynasties, 13 caves in the Song Dynasty, 4 caves each in the Western Xia Dynasty, 4 caves each in the Yuan Dynasty and 9 caves in the Qing Dynasty. It is a branch of the art system of Mogao Grottoes that the grottoes have high similarity with Mogao Grottoes in form, expression content and art style.
