The Jingkou Hani Ethnic Village

The Jingkou Hani Ethnic Village is located in Yuanyang County , the south ofYunnan Province. The Hani people's ancestors came to this area 2,500 yearsago. In their struggle against the difficult terrain they successfully establishedthe terraces, where they grew rice in order to make a living. The technology ofdeveloping fertile land on rugged mountain slopes didn't spread all over Chinaand Southeast Asia until 14th century. The creativity of the Hani people turnedthis mountain area into one of artistic beauty. In recognition, the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644) emperor granted the title of 'Skillful Sculptor' to Hani people andtheir good reputation was passed down from generation to generation. Atpresent, known as 'land sculpture' the terraced fields have been beingofficially acknowledged by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritagesite. The scenery of the terraced fields is at its best from November to thefollowing April since the fields are full of water, composing a colorful painting.The visitors could also see the folk dancing performances and Hani showroomwhen taking the tours here. It takes about 2-3 hours to finish the whole trip.
