The Great Mosque of Xi'an

The Great Mosque of Xi'an, located less than 1 km northwest to the DrumTower on 30 Huajue Lane, occupying an area of over 12,000 square meters, isone of the oldest and most renowned mosques in the country. It is also knownas the Great East Mosque because of its large scale and location east ofanother mosque on the Dajue Alley of the City. The mosque was recorded tobe first completed in 742 (Tang Dynasty), and repaired and expanded in thefollowing dynasties. Unlike most mosques in Middle Eastern or Arab countries,the Great great mosqueMosque of Xi'an is completely Chinese in itsconstruction and architectural style, except for some Arabic lettering anddecorations, for the mosque has neither domes nor traditional-style minarets.It is still used by Chinese Muslims (mainly the Hui people) today as a place ofworship. When you visit it, please do kindly notice the Non-Muslims are notadmitted to the main prayer hall or during times of prayer.
