The architecture of the former residence in Fenghuang has a strong Xiangxi characteristic, and the former residence of Shen Congwen is the most dazzling highlight of the cultural landscape in the Fenghuang Ancient Town tourist area. Shen Congwen was born here on December 28, 1902, and the former residence has a history of over a hundred years. It is a late Qing Dynasty building, which has been turned into an exhibition room showcasing Shen Congwen's life and achievements. Outside the main house, the warm spring sun fills the courtyard. In the shopping room of the former residence, many young people often crowd in front of the book counter, eager to buy Shen Congwen's exquisite works. Shen Congwen (1902-1988), originally named Shen Yuehuan, also known by pen names such as Xiu Yunyun, Jia Chen, Shangguan Bi, and Xuan Ruo, had a childhood nickname of Maolin and was styled Chongwen. He was a famous Chinese writer and researcher of historical artifacts. At the age of 14, he joined the army and wandered along the borders of Hunan, Sichuan, and Guizhou. He began his literary creation in 1924 and worked at the Chinese Historical Museum and the Institute of History of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences after the founding of the country, mainly engaged in the study of ancient Chinese history. Shen Congwen had a deep love for the Miao ethnic group, and many of his literary works describe Miao customs, attracting many passionate young hearts. They come in groups from afar, sowing the cultural seeds they obtain from the former residence in everyone's heart, blossoming and bearing fruit, creating and shaping a brilliant and beautiful cultural spring for the Chinese nation in the 21st century.
