Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, located in Changning District, Shanghai, China, is 13 kilometers from the city center. It is one of China's three major gateway composite hubs, serving as a type of open international aviation port and an alternate airport for international flights. It has made significant contributions to improving the quality of aviation services in Shanghai. Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport was established in 1921 and rebuilt in 1950; it was converted from a military-civilian use airport to a civil aviation exclusive airport in 1971; Terminal 2 and the second runway were put into operation in 2010; and the renovation of Terminal 1 and the East Transportation Center project started in 2014. The airport has a building area of 510,000 square meters; the apron covers about 486,000 square meters, with a total of 89 parking positions. Currently, the airport ranks fourth in China and forty-first in the world in terms of traffic.
