Henan, abbreviated as Yu. It is located south of the Yellow River. Henan is the birthplace of Chinese civilization, with over 4,000 years of historical records. In ancient times, Henan was also known as the Central Plain or Zhongzhou, meaning "the land of the Central Plain" or "the central region." Henan Province covers an area of 167,000 square kilometers, and by the end of 2018, its population exceeded 94 million, making it the third most populous province in China. Its neighboring provinces are Shaanxi and Hebei. Henan Province has many famous historical sites, the most notable of which include: the Shaolin Temple on Mount Song in Dengfeng City, Henan Province, named "Shaolin Temple" because it is located in the dense forest of Shaoshi Mountain; the Longmen Grottoes, one of China's three major grottoes, which were excavated during the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty, with 2,345 niches and over 100,000 statues, as well as more than 2,800 inscriptions; and the Baima Temple, known as "China's first ancient temple" with a history of over 1,900 years.
