Guangdong Province, abbreviated as Yue, is located at the southernmost tip of mainland China. The second largest river in China, the Pearl River, flows through Guangdong. The province covers an area of 179,700 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 11.5221 million. Guangdong's history can be traced back to 100,000 years ago. In 771 BC, Guangdong began trade and cultural exchanges with the various states of the Shang and Zhou dynasties in the Central Plains. In 221 BC, Guangdong implemented administrative divisions for the first time. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Guangdong made administrative adjustments based on historical divisions. In 1988, the entire province was divided into 18 cities, a management system that continues to this day. Guangdong is one of the forefront regions of China's reform and opening up. It is also the province with the fastest economic development and the most developed commerce in China. Guangdong's unique geographical and climatic features provide it with rich tourism resources, such as the Chimelong Resort in Guangzhou and the Overseas Chinese Town in Shenzhen. The eastern resort area is now also a major venue for various international events.
