Shaanxi Province, abbreviated as "Shan" or "Qin", with its capital in Xi'an, is located in the inland area of China, in the middle reaches of the Yellow River. It borders Shanxi and Henan to the east, Ningxia and Gansu to the west, Sichuan, Chongqing, and Hubei to the south, and Inner Mongolia to the north. The total area is 205,600 square kilometers. By the end of 2019, the permanent population of Shaanxi Province was 38.76 million. Shaanxi is one of the important birthplaces of the Chinese nation. The Chencang site in Lantian, Xi'an, dating back 2.12 million years, is the earliest site of human activity in Northeast Asia, predating the previously recognized earliest primitive humans in China, the "Yuanmou people", by 420,000 years. Shaanxi Province is a famous historical and cultural province. The Banpo site, established over 6,000 years ago, is a well-known matriarchal clan village site of the Yangshao culture in the Yellow River basin, and the Terracotta Army, one of the eight wonders of the world, is also located in Shaanxi Province.
