Dengfeng City is under the jurisdiction of Zhengzhou City in Henan Province, located in the central-western part of Henan Province. The first dynasty of our country, the Xia Dynasty, established its capital in Yangcheng, which is today's Gaoceng Town in Dengfeng City.

The first dynasty of our country, the Xia Dynasty, established its capital in Yangcheng, which is today's Dengfeng City, Gaoceng Town. "Dengfeng" and "Gaoceng" are named after Empress Wu Zetian's "Deng" (ascend) to Mount Song and "Feng" (confer) the Central Peak in the year 696 AD, marking the completion of great achievements. The historical architectural complex of Dengfeng, represented by the Shaolin Temple, Zhongyue Temple, Songyang Academy, and the Astronomical Observatory, was successfully included in the "World Heritage List" at the 34th World Heritage Conference. The Songshan area is one of the important birthplaces of Chinese culture and is known as the "Holy Mountain of Chinese Culture." Tourist attractions in Dengfeng City include the Shaolin Temple, which is the birthplace of Chinese Zen Buddhism; Songyang Academy, which became one of the origins of Song Dynasty Neo-Confucianism; and the Nanyue Temple in Dengfeng, which is one of the earliest existing wooden structures in our province.
