Pingyao County is located 94 kilometers southwest of Taiyuan City in Shanxi Province. It consists of 5 towns and 9 villages, covering a total area of 1260 square kilometers. The ancient city of Pingyao, located in Pingyao County, is a cultural city with a history of over 2700 years and is the only ancient town in China that has successfully applied for World Cultural Heritage status. As the financial center of China during the late Qing Dynasty, the ancient city of Pingyao, which covers an area of only 2.6 square kilometers, has well-preserved buildings and astonishing urban planning and layout. Within the ancient city of Pingyao, there are ancient city walls, the ancient county government office, China's earliest Confucius Temple, and China's first bank, the Rishengchang Draft Bank, among others.
