Dujiangyan is located in the western part of Chengxi, Dujiangyan City, Chengdu, Sichuan Province, on the Min River in the western Chengdu Plain, about 48 kilometers from downtown Chengdu and 20 kilometers from the Qingcheng Mountain Scenic Area. Dujiangyan was built in the late years of King Zhao of Qin (around 256-251 BC) and is a large-scale water conservancy project organized by Li Bing and his son, based on the earlier work of Bie Ling. It consists of parts such as the Fish Mouth, Flying Sand Weir, and Bottle Mouth. For more than two thousand years, it has played a role in flood control and irrigation, turning the Chengdu Plain into a "Land of Abundance" with fertile fields, where water and drought are managed by human efforts. To this day, the irrigation area has reached over 30 counties and cities, covering nearly ten million acres. It is the oldest, uniquely preserved, and still in use grand water conservancy project in the world, characterized by its damless water diversion, embodying the hard work, bravery, and wisdom of the ancient Chinese laborers.
