Beijing is located in the northern part of China, in the northern part of the North China Plain, adjacent to the Bohai Bay, and borders Tianjin to the east, with the rest neighboring Hebei. Beijing has a total area of 16,410.54 square kilometers. As of 2018, the city has 16 districts, with a permanent population of 21.542 million. As one of China's six ancient capitals, Beijing has a history of over 3,000 years of city building and over 850 years of being a capital. It is the city with the most World Heritage Sites in the world. Beijing has gathered Chinese culture since the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, and has numerous famous scenic spots and cultural landscapes. Beijing has become one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and was successfully selected as one of Lonely Planet's top ten must-visit places in the Asia-Pacific region in 2019.
