The Shijia Pagoda of Fogong Temple, located in Ying County, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province, commonly known as the Ying County Wooden Pagoda, was built in the second year of Liao Qingning, which was a thousand years ago (the third year of the Song Zhihe, 1056 AD), and was completed in the sixth year of Jin Mingchang (the first year of Southern Song Qingyuan, 1195 AD). It is the highest and oldest existing wooden pagoda in China and the only wooden structure of its kind. It is known as one of the "Three Great Towers of the World" alongside the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. In 2016, the Shijia Pagoda was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the tallest wooden pagoda in the world. The pagoda stands at a height of 67.31 meters, with a base diameter of 30.27 meters, and has an octagonal shape. The entire pagoda is made of 3,000 cubic meters of red pine wood, weighing over 2,600 tons, and is a pure wooden structure with no nails or rivets. Inside the pagoda, the relics of Shakyamuni Buddha's tooth are enshrined. Over the millennium, other similar wooden pagodas have either been destroyed by natural disasters or lost to human actions, but the Ying County Wooden Pagoda remains intact, having withstood over 40 earthquakes, more than 200 gunfire and shelling incidents, and countless lightning strikes. It is known as "China's First Wooden Pagoda." The recommended visiting time is 1-2 hours.
