Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region, is the political, economic, cultural, and religious activity center of the Tibet region. Lhasa is located at an altitude of 3,650 meters, making it one of the highest cities in the world, with a total area of 29,518 square kilometers and a permanent population of about 700,000, with an urban population of about 330,000. Tibet has mostly sunny weather throughout the year, with little rainfall, mild winters, and no extreme heat in summer, making the climate pleasant, with over 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, earning it the nickname "City of Sunshine." Lhasa is one of the first national historical and cultural cities, known for its beautiful scenery, long history, unique customs, and strong religious atmosphere. It has received numerous honors, including China's Excellent Tourist City, Europe's Favorite Tourist City, National Civilized City, China's Safest City, Top 100 Charming Cities with Chinese Characteristics, Top 200 Charming Cities in the World, and one of the 100 Cities to Explore in China in 2018. In and around Lhasa, there are many historical sites, among which the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, and Ganden Monastery are particularly famous.
