Zhujiajiao, commonly known as "Jiaoli", is the closest ancient water town in Jiangnan to Shanghai. In 1991, it was listed as one of the four major historical and cultural towns in Shanghai. The town is under the jurisdiction of Qingpu District in Shanghai and is adjacent to the Dianshan Lake Scenic Area, covering a total area of 136.85 square kilometers (including a water area of 46 square kilometers in Dianshan Lake). The ancient town has nine old streets along the water, with over a thousand residential houses built along the river. Among them, Beidajie, also known as "Yixian Street", is the first street with the most well-preserved Ming and Qing architecture in the suburbs of Shanghai. It stretches over three hundred meters from Fangsheng Bridge in the east to Meizhou Alley in the west, representing a typical old street in Jiangnan. The most famous Fangsheng Bridge is also the largest five-arch stone bridge in the Shanghai area. Beidajie is home to many specialty snack shops, including the famous Auntie's Zongzi, as well as various exquisite pastries. The town features small bridges and flowing water, exuding an ancient charm, making it a great place for leisure travel. Since it is not in the center of Shanghai, it is recommended to set aside a day for sightseeing. There is a custom of drinking morning tea here, and if you arrive early, you can better appreciate the leisurely lifestyle of the townspeople.
