Sichuan, abbreviated as Chuan or Shu, is one of China's 23 provinces, with its capital in Chengdu. It is located in the inland area of southwestern China, bordered by Chongqing to the east, Yunnan and Guizhou to the south, Tibet to the west, and Shaanxi, Gansu, and Qinghai to the north. Sichuan Province has a total area of 486,000 square kilometers, governing 18 prefecture-level cities and 3 autonomous prefectures. As of the end of 2018, the permanent population of Sichuan Province was 83.41 million. Human civilization began to appear in Sichuan about 25,000 years ago, and during the late Neolithic period, a highly developed ancient Shu civilization emerged, represented by the Baodun culture, Sanxingdui site, and Jinsha site. Sichuan Province has a total of 6 World Heritage Sites, ranking second in the country. Among them: 3 natural heritage sites (Jiuzhaigou, Huanglong, Sichuan Giant Panda Habitat), 1 dual cultural and natural heritage site (Mount Emei - Leshan Giant Buddha), and 1 cultural heritage site (Qingcheng Mountain - Dujiangyan).
