Information

The Dongchuan Red Land is located in the Hongtudi Town under the jurisdiction of Dongchuan District, Kunming City. The journey from Kunming to here is about 250 kilometers by car, with an altitude ranging from 1800 to 2600 meters. The red soil developed due to the high temperature and heavy rainfall in Dongchuan, Yunnan, contains a high amount of iron and aluminum, has low organic matter, is highly acidic, and has a heavy texture. This area, covering nearly a hundred square kilometers, is the most concentrated, typical, and distinctive red land on the Yunnan Red Soil Plateau. With the blue sky, white clouds, and the ever-changing light, it creates a spectacular landscape of the red land. The Dongchuan Red Land refers to the area in Hongtudi Town, located more than 40 kilometers southwest of Dongchuan District, Kunming City, specifically a place called "Huashitou" (at the 109-kilometer milestone). Every year from September to December, part of the red land is prepared for planting, while another part has already been sown with green barley or wheat and other crops. From a distance, it looks like colorful patches painted by the heavens, vibrant and dazzling, complemented by the blue sky, white clouds, and the changing beams of light, forming a spectacular view of the red land, making it a favorite travel destination for photography enthusiasts. The recommended visiting time is half a day.
