Luxi County is located in the southern part of Yunnan Province, bordering Vietnam with a national boundary of 153 kilometers. The total area of the county is approximately 3,097 square kilometers, with a terrain that is high in the center and low around the edges, the highest elevation being 2,637 meters and the lowest being 320 meters. The average annual temperature is 16 degrees Celsius, with distinct dry and wet seasons, and the climate is spring-like all year round. There are six ethnic groups living here: Hani, Yi, Yao, Dai, Lahu, and Han, with the Hani ethnic group having the highest population ratio, earning it the title of "Hani Mountain Township." The terraced fields here are spectacular and majestic, changing with the seasons, displaying a myriad of colors that are breathtaking. Additionally, the ancient customs and folkways here are captivating, and visiting the Hani villages in the terraced field area allows one to experience the primitive and simple folk customs of the Hani subgroups, such as Lami and Hao, and to engage with the agricultural culture of the Hani people. The Hani people traditionally plant rice seedlings in June each year, so in the summer, Yuanyang is filled with lush green rice waves. By October, as the crops are harvested, the mountains and fields turn golden, but the most beautiful season to view the terraced fields is always winter, as the flooded fields shimmer with a silvery light, highlighting the graceful and winding contours of the terraces. A half-day visit is recommended.
