Menglun Botanical Garden, also known as Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, is located in Menglun, Mengla County, 96 kilometers from Jinghong and over 100 kilometers from the county seat of Mengla. "If you come to Xishuangbanna and don't visit the botanical garden, it's as if you haven't been to Xishuangbanna at all." The Menglun Botanical Garden is praised as the "miniature of the plant kingdom" and the "heart of the emerald." Therefore, people come to Banna to fulfill their wish to visit the botanical garden. The tributary of the Lancang River flowing here, the Luosuo River, makes a bend that encloses the land into a gourd-shaped peninsula, which is called Gourd Island, where the botanical garden is built. The soil here is fertile, at an altitude of 570 meters, and belongs to a tropical climate, with an average annual temperature between 21-22 degrees Celsius, providing good conditions for the growth of tropical plants. In 1958, under the advocacy of the famous botanist Professor Cai Xitao, the Yunnan Tropical Plant Research Institute was established, initially built in Dazhonglong and moved to Gourd Island in 1959. After 40 years of development, over 3,000 species of tropical and subtropical plants from home and abroad have been planted on the island, making it an important tropical botanical garden under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In the scorching rainforest, when you are thirsty, the ubiquitous rattan is like timely rain. This vine is very moist and is known as the "natural water bottle"; if you come here, you must try it. The visiting time is half a day.
