Dayan Ancient Town, also known as Lijiang Ancient Town, is located in the central part of the Lijiang Basin. It was established in the late Song Dynasty and early Yuan Dynasty (late 13th century) when the ancestors of the Mu family moved the ruling center from the ancient town of Baisha to the current Lion Mountain, beginning the construction of houses and city walls, referred to as "Daye Field". The ancient town is situated on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, covering an area of 7 square kilometers. The streets within the town are built along the mountains and rivers, paved with red angular gravel, featuring attractions such as Sifang Street, Mu's Residence, Wufeng Tower, Black Dragon Pool, Wenchang Palace, Wang Peizhen Memorial Hall, Snow Mountain Academy, Wang Family Christian Church, Fang Guoyu's Former Residence, Baima Longtan Temple, Gu Peter's Former Residence, Jinglian Temple, and Puxian Temple. Lijiang Ancient Town boasts colorful local ethnic customs and entertainment activities, including Naxi ancient music, Dongba rituals, divination culture, ancient town bars, and the Naxi Torch Festival, all of which are unique. The name of the ancient town is said to originate from the hereditary rulers of Lijiang, who have the surname Mu, and the construction of the city inevitably resembles the character "困" formed by the frame of the character "木". Here, there are both bustling crowds and quiet courtyards and alleys. In the morning, sitting on the terrace of an inn, watching the sunrise over the ancient town as the sun gradually rises, you will feel as if time is meant to be idled away. If time permits, staying in an inn in the ancient town for 1-2 nights will allow you to better experience the beauty of Lijiang, with a recommended sightseeing time of 2-3 hours in the ancient town.
